This primary source is President Bill Clinton giving his remarks following the signing of NAFTA in late 1993. This source provides a significant degree of authenticity due to the time it was filmed. In the video, Clinton claims that NAFTA will create hundreds of thousands of jobs for the U.S., with fail to mention Mexico or even Canada. Clinton also claims that NAFTA will “promote more growth, more equality, better preservation of the environment, and a greater possibility of world peace.” Clinton’s remarks have not aged well, and it is a stark comparison to attitudes at NAFTA’s beginning to contemporary opinions on NAFTA.
